So he was menacing the car drivers of Attleton by handing out fees for parking misdemeanors and he has chewed out a terrified teenager for throwing a soda can into the bushes but that was him being conscientious. It wasn't him being nervous and making busy work to distract himself.
Kay finds him in the park, checking for signs of nightly gang or mob activity since it's a favorite hangout for their troublemakers. When he catches sight of Kay he looks like a bantha caught in the speeder lights.]
There has been a refreshing lack of mob murders lately. Serial killers are great.

[ He rubs a hand over the back of his neck and gives Kay a sheepish little grin. It might make him look younger than he normally appears, but mostly he just feels very awkward. But, oh, he likes it when Kay sounds so fond of him, always leaves him flustered. ]

I don't think you're supposed to be carrying these around town.
[Kay’s eyes glint and there’s a tilt to his head that happens every time he looks at Cassian when the man is being stupidly adorable.]
Could have been worded differently, yes. [Kay takes a few steps closer, hand reaching out to cup Cassian’s face so he’s looking up at him instead.] I won’t drop them. And I wanted to thank you for the present. Did I do something to deserve it?
[ He's blurted it out before he can censor himself and falls silent, mortified by his own response. He would look away, except Kay's hand guiding his face doesn't permit for much of that.
He gulps audibly.]
You know you're... You are special to me. I don't show it often enough.
[The hand moves, so Cassian is free to move or flee is he so wishes, but Kay stands close to him. He gets it, he thinks. Cassian might be oblivious when Kay tell him he loves him, might not be able to say the words...but he shows it enough with actions.]
[ He tries. He really tries to show it in all the small gestures he is capable of, tries to let Kay know that he means the world to him. He feels a little lighter for knowing that Kay knows. ]
I'm happy, too. I like our life.
[ He doesn't move away, just edges a little closer still. With Kay in his regular droid body, he is face to Kay's chest, but when he tilts his head back he can gaze into his photoreceptor units. He places a hand on Kay's arm, fingers hooking with familiar ease into the ring joint at his elbow and caressing the inner ring. ]
[Kay always knows, one way or the other. He's not as oblivious or ignorant of other people's feelings as he wants them to believe.
he's also not very good at words either, so he leans in closer, optics dimming slightly, until their foreheads touch. It's the closest thing they get to a kiss in Kay's current body.]

Just the park. I was going to drop by some of our bars afterwards, you know, the usual hear if they're having trouble and reminder the law is watching visit... But it doesn't have to be tonight.

Or we could take our time with the park. It's not too cold yet.
[ They can make it romantic, he figures. Walk slowly, cuddled as close as their different height permits, stop for moonlit caresses. Scare some couples making out in the bushes into getting a room so they can make out in the bushes themselves, chase off the usual fare of creeps and drug dealers that is drawn to nighttime parks. The glorious Guardian life. ]
The brawl is tempting. But then we would get too distracted and that won't scare those tugs. [He gives Cassian's hand a squeeze, mindful of not applying too much force. he only regrets that his metal fingers are so cold to the touch.] It's a nice evening for a walk.
[And those are lovely things to go this evening. if they're lucky they will come across someone trying too much a poor citizen and Kay will have an excuse to try out his new present. Everybody wins. More or less.]

[ Which, well, Guardian's privileges. He only feels mildly bad for it, considering Kay works two more jobs on top of this one so they can make ends meet. It's nice to see another every day at work, at least.

Don't see it as cheating, see it as reorganizing shift effectively. And cheating.
[People has gotten better at ignoring their oddities, or at seeing them together. Kay is glad they have privacy but he also knows that they can still do this is public without much people complaining.]
